Hiking Trails

Cave of the Mounds has many different hiking trails that explore the different natural environments of the area. Walk past sinkholes and above caves along the Karst View Trail. The Oak Calley Loop Trail has ancient trees and a disappearing stream. Each of these trails is about a 1/2 mile in length.

Karst View Hiking Trail

The Karst View Trail hiking trail provides visitors the chance to learn a bit more about karst topography and Wisconsin caves. For example, sinkholes are the highlight of this trail, including those above Cave of the Mounds, as well as several separate systems. These are a sign of Karst Topography.

Karst View Trail access begins southwest of the Visitor Center. Trail difficulty: easy; Trail length: approximately 1/2 of a mile.

Oak Valley Loop Hiking Trail

The Oak Valley Loop hiking trail provides visitors with experiences in savanna woodland forested habitats where birds and small mammals abound. In fact, this piece of land was purchased in cooperation with the Groundswell Conservancy and remains protected as a conservation easement.

Oak Valley Loop access begins southwest of the Visitor Center. Trail difficulty: moderate; Trail length: approximately 1/2 of a mile.
