Who Are We?

Cave of the Mounds is a cave system in the Driftless Region of Wisconsin. At a measured 1,692ft, the cave winds beneath the historic Brigham farmlands that once covered thousands of acres across the Blue Mounds, the highest points in Southern Wisconsin. Today, with around 100 acres of land, our park boasts restored prairies, views to Illinois and the Capitol building in Madison, and over two miles of trails that wind through woodland and savanna.

We are a privately-owned National Natural Landmark, a distinction earned in 1988 after more than a decade of effort. This partnership with the Department of the Interior recognizes the cave as a “site which possesses exceptional value as an illustration of the nation’s natural heritage and contributes to a better understanding of man’s environment.”

  • TOUR GUIDE
  • SURFACE CREW
  • GROUNDS MAINTENANCE

Tour Guides are the heart of our operation. You’ll want a passion for the natural world and a chatty personality for this position. Tour guides are responsible for making memories for each and every guest that visits us, whether you’re leading a group through the entire cave or just interpreting a single room. Tour guides will spend a good amount of time underground, and therefore cannot be claustrophobic or uncomfortable in enclosed spaces.

We provide ALL necessary training since caves are a pretty specific topic. You’ll need to be comfortable walking a mile or two each day with several staircases along your path, and you’ll need excellent communication skills for both your coworkers and guests. Ideal candidates are available weekends and weekdays, especially around holidays, for a minimum of 3 days a week.

Requirements

  • Ability to be on your feet for several hours
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to ascend and descend several sets of stairs over the course of an hour
  • At least 16 years of age
  • Ability to pass a standard background check

The Surface Crew keep our ship sailing. From selling tickets to dispatching tours into the cave, the surface-only staff are integral in keeping the cave running. This position rewards outgoing individuals who have excellent communication and a knack for fast paced work. You’ll be responsible for the first impression we make as guests come down the hill and the last as they leave.

Surface crew members do not work in the cave at any point, but you should still be capable of being on your feet for long periods of time. You’ll help us operate various positions around the park depending on your skill level. Since we sell rocks and other similar materials, you’ll need to be able to lift at least 20lbs comfortably.

Day to day work will vary. Possible positions include:

  • Gift Shop Attendant
  • Ticket Seller
  • Cave Dispatcher
  • Quarry Attendant
  • Beer Garden Attendant (18+ only)
  • Sluice Production
