Camp Brigham’s Earth Academy: Summer Enrichment Courses

Geology: July 27 11-14 Year Olds

This is a comprehensive program designed to lead students through the basic concepts within the field of geology. Rock types and fossil formation are investigated, and we’ll explore our GIANT geologic timeline and of course the cave. Each student will leave with his/her very own collection of rock and mineral OR fossil specimens!

Citizen Science: July 28

Citizen Science: July 28 11-14 Year Olds

People of all ages can be citizen scientists. All that’s needed is some curiosity and the ability to follow instructions. Citizen scientists are people — young or old — who help collect data for research projects. Learn about citizen science opportunities in your community and practice some data collection and scientific methods as part of this course.

Outdoor Skills: July 29

Outdoor Skills: July 29 11-14 Year Olds

Learn basic outdoor skills including shelter building, fire building and safety, outdoor cooking, wild edibles, acquiring and treating water for safe drinking and more. Learn the basics of using a map and compass, navigate our orienteering course and create your own course as a group.

Caves & Karst: July 30

Caves & Karst: July 30 11-14 Year Olds

Take a journey through Wisconsin’s unique driftless area and karst landscape. Recognize the clues that tell you a cave lies nearby – discovering sinkholes, a disappearing stream and exploring our cave system. By the end of this course you will know as much about caves as one of our newly trained tour guides.

Driftless Habitats: July 31

Driftless Habitats: July 31 11-14 Year Olds

Cave of the Mounds is home to a variety of habitats including prairie and forest as well as an intermitent stream, sinkholes and chert boulders. Find how what kinds of organisms make their homes inside of caves and if any live inside Cave of the Mounds. Your group will also explore beyond Cave of the Mounds with a hike to nearby Brigham County Park.
