Travel through Geologic Time to Wisconsin's Oldest Classroom

Southwest Wisconsin is a beautiful place to visit for many reasons - prairies, deciduous forests, rustic farmlands, fantastic parks, historical sites, large hills and deep valleys. However, visitors to the area must recognize the legacy of the natural history that has shaped this landscape over millions of years!

Geologic Time is an expansive description of the earth's history and details in particular life on earth from the beginning of time to the present.

Cave of the Mounds National Natural Landmark has re-created a HUGE Geologic Timeline for visitors to walk along while learning about the many geologic processes and forms of life that have occurred and evolved throughout time on earth.

Signs along the timeline provide information not only about the earth in general, but more detail is given in relation to the formation of our Cave over geologic time, which enhances everyones tour through the beautiful underground passageways.
